Describe the system and the problem
What it’s doing, when it started, and the make and age if you know them.
Ask how the visit is priced
Ask for the quote and what it includes before any repair work starts.
Decide: repair or replace
If the system is older, ask for a repair price and a replacement estimate so you can compare.

Blowing warm air
Check the thermostat is on Cool and set below room temperature. Still blowing warm? Call.
Won’t turn on
Look for a tripped breaker and dead thermostat batteries. If it still won’t start, don’t keep resetting it.
Water around the indoor unit
Switch the system off at the thermostat to limit water damage, then call.
Runs all day, house won’t cool
A clogged filter is the easy thing to check. If the filter’s clean, the system needs a look.
